BIRDS OF CANADA CARDS 1950s?
This set was wholly Canadian; there was never, to my knowledge, a Birds of the U.S. set. These are not to be confused with the Fold-a-Bird sets, which did occur for both the U.S. and Canada. That set was full-color cards; these are printed in blue on the familiar gray cardboard stock.
There is no indication on these cards that they were printed for the Canadian branch of Nabisco Shredded Wheat, except that they are Birds of Canada and are noted as one of 28 cards instead of one of 36. The first book comes in English only, or bilingually in English and French. The second book seems to have been bilingual only, but I should be interested to hear otherwise if someone has this second set in English only. They include directions for coloring. The artist is J. M. Shortt.
I am unsure of the date of this set. They may have followed the Straight Arrow cards, and filled in the period when, in the U.S., other books of Straight Arrow cards followed the first, in Canada, this was not the case. More information always welcome: jwalton971@aol.com.
