FOLDABIRD CARDS  1958

This set of eight birds to construct was done in conjunction with the Junior Audubon Society in the U.S., and are sometimes referred to as the Audubon Bird set.  These cards were available in Shredded Wheat boxes, but could also be ordered by mail, along with an application to join the Junior Audubon Society.  A corresponding Canadian set, however, is called Nabisco Birds, and there is no reference at all to the Audubon Society on those cards.  The U.S. cards indicate they were designed by Trautmann, Bailey, Blampey with a date of 1958; no designer is listed on the Canadian cards.  The U.S. cards are printed in English only; the Canadian cards are bilingual [English & French], and the address for mail-in orders is Toronto, not New York, as it is on the U.S. cards.  Aside from these small differences, the sets are otherwise the same.

These cards when unfolded are approximately the size of three box inserts, but they are in fact one card, folded in thirds, and die-cut to make the pieces easy to punch out.  The paper stock is off-white, and they are printed in full color.

It would be hard to confuse these cards with the earlier Birds of Canada set, as that set was printed in blue on gray cardboard, while these are extremely colorful cards.

The birds in this set are listed below the illustrations.
