SHREDDED WHEAT ADVERTISING POST CARDS: SET V, SERIES 103
Set V has only Series 103, and does not include Series 22 – apparently dropped by this time. [Should anyone find a Series 22 with red heading, please let me know!]. The top line in Set V has an “It’s All in the Shreds” message in red in the upper left corner. The bottom line has been changed from “Shredded Wheat – the cleanest and purest of all cereal foods, made in the cleanest, most hygienic food factory in the world” to “Shredded Wheat – Biscuit and Triscuit/The cleanest and purest of all cereal foods, made in the cleanest and finest food factory in the world.”
There are, however, three different varieties of this bottom line inscription, which changed over time. The first [1908] is a caps, lower case setting, with no copyright date. The second [1909] is all capital letters. The third returns to caps/lower case setting, but in a different font. This can most easily be seen in the lower case “a,” instead of the “a” used in the 1908 setting. However, this third type is the only one which also carries a copyright date of 1911 in the lower right corner. The back of this third variety is still an undivided back., but differs slightly from what has been used before, in that it has no “Mailed From” message.
For cards with “It’s All in the Shreds” message in brown in the upper left corner, see Set III & IV; for a “Greetings from Niagara Falls” heading, see Set II.
