SET VIII & IX, SERIES 260 AND 276 [“VIEWS IN AND ABOUT THE HOME OF SHREDDED WHEAT], AND SET X, SERIES 290 [“THE HOME OF SHREDDED WHEAT”]

SHREDDED WHEAT ADVERTISING POST CARDS:

SET VIII & IX, SERIES 260 AND 276 [“VIEWS IN AND ABOUT THE HOME OF SHREDDED WHEAT], AND SET X, SERIES 290 [“THE HOME OF SHREDDED WHEAT”]

Sets VIII & IX are similar to one another in that they are multi-view cards – pictures of the interior of the Shredded Wheat factory. Set X (Series 290) is a simple view of the Shredded Wheat factory from the exterior. These cards all have divided backs. All these cards have, in addition to the Series number at the lower left, a copyright date lower right. The dates are 1912 [Series 260], 1913 [Series 276], and 1915 {Series 290]. In addition, Series 290 indicates the printer at bottom left to be Niagara Litho, Buffalo, NY. It is very possible however that Niagara Litho printed all three of these views.

This is a late beginning for divided backs. Set VIII & IX have the same type back; Set X includes a message as well as lines for the writer: “I have just visited the cleanest, finest, most hygienic food factory in the world, in which are made every day over 2,000,000 Shredded Wheat Biscuits.”

It is possible that a 1914 card exists. I would be happy to hear from anyone with any new items.
