NABISCO WILD ANIMAL SHOW – 3-DIMENSIONAL PICTURES & GLASSES – 1953
While the original object of including collectible cards in boxes of cereal was to encourage repurchase, some sets began appearing where they could be ordered by mail. I believe this was the first such set produced for Nabisco Shredded Wheat. Cards were still included in boxes, but one of these was an order form to send away for the complete set.
These cards reflect the 3-D mania that is associated mostly with the movies of that time. Special red & green 3-D glasses were needed to view these cards properly. Included in the complete set were 10 cards, showing 2 animals on a card, plus the order form card and a pair of 3-D glasses. The cards by themselves look like poorly registered color prints, and frankly, even the glasses don’t help much in getting a 3-D effect. In addition to “Nabisco Shredded Wheat Magic 3D viewer” on the glasses, the name of the manufacturer [Brownie MFG. Co., N.Y.C.] is printed below “right hand” in a colorless impression.
