HOWDY DOODY CARDS – 1950’S
This set was wholly Canadian, and there is no indication on the cards of how many completed the set. In all likelihood this was a set of 36 cards, although around this period in time, the Canadian sets began to be printed in sets of 28 instead of 36, so that is another hypothesis. But the possibility exists for a complete set number of something altogether different. These cards are bilingual (English & French).
Howdy Doody cards were printed in blue on the familiar gray cardboard. The set consists of a number of puzzles and coloring cards, centered around the characters on the popular TV show, Howdy Doody. They cards are very hard to find. I know of the following, and would be happy to learn of others. Please contact me at jwalton971@aol.com.
There are 5 main characters; Howdy Doody, Dilly Dally, Col. Scuttlebutt, Clarabell, and Princess Summerfallwinterspring. There are at least 5 different types of “games” – color me, connect the dots, mazes, color the dotted shapes, and dress me cards. In addition there is one missing letter puzzle, and two matching exercise cards. If each of these existed for each character, it would not be hard to reach a total of 36 cards.
